SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 7, 2011)
– Silver Eagle Distributors, L.P., the local Anheuser-Busch distributor, in partnership with TxDOT, Nationwide Insurance, the San Antonio Police Officers Association and numerous local organizations, are encouraging Fiesta
goers to plan ahead, use alternative transportation, designate a driver or volunteer to be a designated driver during this year’s Fiesta events. The partnership will fund the Fiesta Safe Ride program which will offer free or reduced fare taxi rides to and from Fiesta events to festival goers 21 years and older. Silver Eagle wants to ensure that adults who choose to consume alcoholic beverages do so responsibly and have a plan to make it home safely.
In an effort to increase safety during Fiesta, Silver Eagle is proud to renew its partnership with the Fiesta Safe Ride program. The positive impact that the program had on the community last year has encouraged partners to extend the campaign by increasing funds, extending hours of service and incorporating two taxi companies, Yellow Cab
and San Antonio Taxis
. Fiesta-goers should plan ahead by calling Yellow Cab or San Antonio Taxis before attending events to ensure they have a designated driver to and from Fiesta events. The rides are valued at $20.00 per ride, and will be available Friday, April 8, 2011 through Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.
“We ask all festival-goers to make smart choices. If your plans include alcohol, remember to celebrate responsibly and don’t forget to include the most important part of any celebration – the designated driver,” said John L. Nau, president and CEO of Silver Eagle Distributors.
This partnership, combined with public education and awareness efforts, works to help reduce alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes and fatalities on our Texas highways and roads. Other key community partners in this effort include: Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Bexar County DWI Task Force, Circles of San Antonio Coalition, San Antonio Police Department and Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission.
In addition to participating in this critical effort, Silver Eagle will implement supplementary responsibility messages and programs into Fiesta events, retail accounts and through local media outlets. Additionally, the company’s We I.D.
program is being offered to event organizers and retail accounts to help deter minors from attempting to purchase alcohol, as well as train servers on checking identification and identifying false identification.
Silver Eagle will also be signing up designated drivers at various Fiesta events including FIESTA! FIESTA! at Alamo Plaza, Fiesta de los Reyes and the Ft. Sam Houston Fiesta Fireworks. Patrons who sign up will join the more than 137 million American adults age 21 and older that have either been a designated driver or been driven home by one, according to a 2010 survey conducted by GfK Custom Research North America®
