Silver Eagle Distributors Participates in Global Be(er) Responsible Day on September 23, Encourages San Antonio to Always Use a Designated Driver
New Survey Shows 141 Million American Adults Have Been or Used A Designated Driver
SAN ANTONIO (September 22, 2011)
-- The local Budweiser wholesaler, Silver Eagle Distributors, is participating in Global Be(er) Responsible Day this Friday by visiting local customers – bars, restaurants, convenience stores and other retail accounts – with an important message: If you choose to drink, be sure to plan ahead and use a designated driver so you can enjoy the great times.
More than 1,500 Anheuser-Busch employees across the United States are joining local wholesalers to encourage the use of designated drivers on Global Be(er) Responsible Day, a single 24-hour period to promote responsible drinking that is taking place around the world.
“We’ve worked with Budweiser for many years to promote the use of designated drivers,” said John L. Nau, president and CEO, Silver Eagle Distributors. “Our programming to encourage responsible drinking takes place year-round in San Antonio, but on Friday we will participate in this special global effort with Anheuser-Busch and its sister companies around the world to promote alcohol responsibility.”
Locally, Silver Eagle Distributors is:
- Partnering with The University of Texas at San Antonio to include Global Be(er) Responsible Day messages during the September 24th football game, and as always will be implementing its Good Sport program, which promotes responsible behavior by sports fans and encourages the use of designated drivers.
- Providing local retailers with Driver’s License guides and We I.D. materials to assist in identifying and preventing those who are underage from purchasing and consuming alcohol.
- Continuing to provide programs such as Alert Cab through the San Antonio Restaurant Association to provide free and discounted rides home for bar and restaurant patrons of legal drinking age who have had too much to drink.
“By working together as a community, we can all do our part to promote alcohol responsibility,” emphasized Nau.“We are proud to work with Anheuser-Busch and our local partners on this effort, and thank everyone involved for their support in making Global Be(er) Responsible Day an impactful and educational event for our community.”
Silver Eagle Distributors encourages adults to show their friends they care by visiting Budweiser’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Budweiser
, where they can take a pledge to be, or use, a designated driver. Thousands of consumers who take the pledge will be eligible, where legal, to win a Budweiser hat with a designated driver message.
In conjunction with Global Be(er) Responsible Day, new research from GfK Custom Research North America was released showing promising news in the area of designated driver usage, including that 64% of American adults -- or 141 million people 21 +
-- have been a designated driver or have been driven home by one. The 2011 Designated Driver poll also showed that 86 percent of respondents think that promoting the use of designated drivers is an excellent or good way to help reduce drunk driving.
