New partnership includes a five-year commitment and kicks-off the 2012 event with the World-Famous Budweiser Clydesdales SAN ANTONIO (April 16, 2012)
– Bud Light, the world's best selling beer, and sponsor of over 20 Fiesta events, has added one more to its portfolio for 2012 – St. Mary's University's annual Fiesta Oyster Bake. Bud Light's presence at Oyster Bake will span over at least the next five years, including the celebration of Oyster Bake's 100th anniversary in 2016. Annually, 70,000 festival-goers attend Oyster Bake, making it one of San Antonio's most popular Fiesta events. Monies raised from Oyster Bake go to St. Mary's University's student scholarships and university/alumni programs.
"It is an exciting year, as Bud Light once again serves as the official beer of Fiesta for the 12th year in a row, and is now once again the official beer for one of our city's most widely attended Fiesta events, Oyster Bake," said John L. Nau, III, President and CEO, Silver Eagle Distributors. "This partnership provides the opportunity for Bud Light/Silver Eagle Distributors to invest in an organization that shares our goal of giving back to our communities. We are proud to know that funds raised will help students attending St. Mary's and look forward to helping St. Mary's raise scholarship dollars for many years to come!"
To kick-off Bud Light's proud support of Oyster Bake, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales will be returning to San Antonio to be showcased at the event. Oyster Bake festivities will kick-off on Friday, April 20th and will run through Saturday April 21st. In addition to the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales being showcased at Fiesta Oyster Bake, they will also make special appearances in The Battle of Flowers and The Fiesta Flambeau Parades.
Celebrating its 12th anniversary as the official beer of Fiesta, Bud Light/Silver Eagle Distributors plays an active role in Fiesta's citywide events through strong relationships with local non-profit organizations, including: The Fiesta San Antonio Commission, The Texas Cavaliers, The Rey Feo Consejo Organization, The Battle of Flowers Association and many more.
Throughout Fiesta, festival-goers will be able to enjoy Bud Light products at numerous city-wide celebrations, such as Siesta Fest, Fiesta de los Reyes in Market Square, St. Mary's Oyster Bake, Taste of the Northside, The King William Fair and Taste of New Orleans, to name a few.
As a staunch supporter of alcohol responsibility programs, Silver Eagle Distributors is proud to be partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and other corporate and local organizations for the third year of the Fiesta Safe Ride program that provides discounted taxi rides to and from designated Fiesta events. Silver Eagle is committed to the success of the program and proud to serve as a lead sponsor.
"As our community comes together to celebrate Fiesta, we encourage everyone to have fun and celebrate responsibly," noted Nau. "We ask all festival goers to make smart choices. If your plans include alcohol, remember to enjoy responsibly and don't forget to include the most important part of any celebration – the designated driver."
A public service announcement (PSA) featuring Nau and San Antonio Police Chief William McManus encouraging San Antonians to celebrate responsibly this Fiesta by having a designated driver – will hit local TV and radio stations this Wednesday, April 18, and run through the end of Fiesta. Silver Eagle has continuously aired a responsibility message during Fiesta since coming into the San Antonio market. For the first time this year, the company was proud to have Police Chief McManus join in on the important message, encouraging adults who choose to consume alcoholic beverages do so responsibly and have a plan to make it home safely – either by designating a driver or by taking a taxi.
Bud Light/Silver Eagle Distributors also cares about the communities in which its employees live and work, and is committed to helping Fiesta and the City of San Antonio go green by joining the "Fiesta Verde" initiative, which is partnering this year with the Keep San Antonio Beautiful organization. Bud Light will be taking a leading role in this effort by donating 40 ClearStream recycling containers and 10,000 bags to Keep San Antonio Beautiful for the "Fiesta Verde" initiative.
